Lennon's Latest Linguistics

Because I know I will forget some of these cute and hilarious comments, I decided it was time to start a running list of what Lennon has been saying lately:
Amazing, Delicious, Hilarious, Safety, Rocket Ship, Pirate Ship, Space Ship, Astronaut (do you see a pattern:)), Helicopter, Dinosaurs
and many, many more! Funny Phrases/Sayings:
What is happening? How about a quiet dinner? That is so awesome! You are the best ever! Calm down:) I want my computer. Let's do something creative. This is my favorite toy. Grandma is your mommy, mommy? You are so sweet! You want to dance with me? I don't need your help, I do it myself!
He also LOVES to sing, he knows the intro to every movie and cartoon and his favorite part of watching them is the "beginning" that he can sing to:) He usually tells me at the beginning and end of the day that I am "the best ever". This morning I woke to him stroking my cheek and whispering it in my ear:) Doesn't get much better than that!

Ramble On......

So we have come to the stage where Lennon talks from the moment he wakes up, until the moment he goes to bed...literally. And unless he is saying "I can't" or "I don't like it", we are loving every minute of it! I know that I will never be able to remember all the cute, funny or amazing little phrases that reveal how his brain is working at the stage; but I will try to write down as many as I can and share as many of the stories with others who may help me remember years down the road:) I will start by listing just a few that come to mind: -"Daddy is AWESOME!" -"Good Morning Wee Wee" (while having his diaper changed) -"Evil Dr. Pork Chop is a pig Mommy" (Toy Story 3) -"Did you buy me a surprise?" -"I'm tired, put me to night night" (while trying to climb into his crib) -"Bye Bye friends" (Everyday when he leaves daycare) -"It's ok, don't worry mommy" -"You go to work mommy, I stay home" (When refusing to get out of bed to go to daycare one morning) And the list goes on and on and on. He is truly a sponge! He is also very into puzzles, riding his "bike" (tricycle) and anything related to sorting things. He likes to do everything on his own, choose his own clothes, pick his own activities, has to be HIS idea. Overall, the "Terrible Two's" really haven't been that terrible. We do tend to get about one tantrum a day, usually sudden and unpredictable, but I think his brain just goes through a 20 minute overload period and he doesn't know how else to deal with it:) His sweet, giggly, goofy personality is shining more and more each month, and I can't wait to enjoy the summer off with him!

I've been thinking lately about how many different phases we've already been through with Lennon and how many are yet to come. Now, I'm not talking about developmental phases, although important, I'm thinking more about phases such as: "Mommy is so tired she doesn't know her name", "Lennon only sleeps if he's in our bed and only if I remain perfectly still all night", "Lennon screams unless he is carried constantly" and "We move back to Iowa and Mommy regains her sanity". You get the point:) But luckily all the crazy and hard to handle stages have been intertwined with amazing and adorable phases such as: "Lennon is so cute that everyone he meets falls in love with him", "Instead of walking, Lennon decided to run/walk on his knees for months", "Lennon's giggle makes everyday brighter" and let's not forget the most important positive phase of all "Lennon sleeps through the night and mommy finally gets a full-night of sleep!".
Right now we are in the middle of several fun phases such as: "We change obsessions daily, one days it's Monster Trucks, the next day it might be Thomas the Train or Woody and Buzz. Whichever it may be, Lennon lives and breathes that theme from sun-up til sun-down", "Lennon tries to tell us something and we repeat back to him every possible interpretation of what he might have said until he either freaks out in frustration or we finally figure it out (ex: Bread and Butter, not Bob the Builder-Only took me 20 minutes to figure that one out)", "The only food Lennon will regularly agree to eat are breakfast sausage and pancake dogs and even though Mommy knows that he should be eating MUCH better, she also knows that it is only a phase and is praying his next food obsession will include some form of vegetable or fruit" and last but not least, "Lennon is ALL BOY, oddly strong and will wrestle anyone to the ground if given half the chance. The only forewarning to one of his attacks is the face he makes moments before the take-down (Kind of a squinty-eyed underbite snarly face)". Unfortunately, I don't have an accurate picture of this face, as I am usually running or shielding my own face. There are many more that I haven't mentioned, all of them a combination of joy, excitement, confusion, frustration but most importantly unconditional love! Happy Thanksgiving!

Lennon Turns 2!

I never thought I'd live to see the day that my little collicky baby would turn 2 (mainly because I thought I might die from exhaustion or be driven insane from hearing the word "mom" 700 times a day). What a difference a year makes, it is just amazing to watch your baby grow, change and learn before your very eyes. Lennon has such a big personality, is hilarious and as his daycare provider describes him "is the most willful child she has ever met", ummmm thanks I think:) He learns so quickly and daycare has been wonderful for him, I can not say enough about his wonderful provider Tricia, who truly takes her job of teaching and guiding him seriously. The first time I saw him counting along with his peers to 10, I about fell over. He also LOVES to draw and color and spends at least an hour a day at the table making new creations. I feel that I am ready for the Terrible Two's, I think Lennon has already been in that stage since about week 2 of his life, so bring it on. We had a great Yo Gabba Gabba birthday party for him, which continues to be one of his (and mine)favorite cartoons. He has started to watch a few Pixar movies, but is currently most interested in History Channel documentaries on Monster Trucks...yes, I'm serious, lol. He has learned one very important phrase lately "Mommy's in charge!", so let's hope I can keep him in that frame of mind for as long as possible!

Out of Control Vocabulary!

Not that Lennon has ever been a quiet baby, but we are in a particularly chatty phase that I can only assume will continue indefinitely:) Everyday is full of new words and phrases! This is also the time for mommy, daddy and all those within earshot to tone down their language, because if not Lennon will surely learn a few words we'd rather avoid:) Yesterday while visiting my cousin Sasha and her new baby Finley, Lennon came up with some great lines, such as "Shhh, it's ok baby Winley" and "Baby has poopy diapey". Unfortunately, his favorite word is still "No", but at least he now nods in the affirmative and we are anxiously awaiting our first "Yes!". I am just loving this age so much and I can't wait to hear what comes out of his adorable little mouth next!

Summer Here We Come

Summer is off to a wonderful start! We have had lots of great family days and play dates! Lennon is so verbal, everyday seems to bring new words and phrases. The most common right now is "Daddy go bye-bye" and anything else related to Daddy and his various vehicles (lawn mower, Harley, truck etc). Shad and I went on vacation for the first time without him and he happily stayed at Grandma and Grandpa's, where he learned to drive and look at the "bulls and babies" in the field. We've been dog sitting the last few days and he loves having a "doggie" around the house. Lennon also enjoyed the fireworks this year, loving the "boom booms in sky":) His latest love (unfortunately for us) is Barney, he loves to jump up and down on our bed while he watches it. In general, I'd say jumping up and down on anything is his preference, lol. There is much more fun to be had this summer, we haven't gone to any of the public swimming parks yet, but I'm expecting him to love it especially since he has overcome his fear of slides:)

Spring has Sprung!

After a loooong Iowa winter, Spring is finally here (a little late for my taste!). We were so excited to finally get our privacy fence up and turn our yard into Lennon's new playground! Once the sun started shining regularly and the temperature rose above 40 degrees, the whole family seemed to have a major attitude shift and we have been having a great time! As most of you know, Lennon has been a bit of a needy child, but now he happily entertains himself with legos, his cars (go-go's) and his MANY other toys. He LOVES Elmo, to the point of obsession and I can always buy myself some "mom time" with an episode of Elmo's World. He is also developing quite a sense of humor and an imagination, which makes his personality so fun! Everyday he becomes more of a little boy and less of a baby, jumping off the couch into pillows, wrestling with daddy and other rough and tumble activities that keep me on my toes. Lennon also goes to daycare one day a week, so that I have time to put the house back together and job hunt in peace. He was pretty upset at first but is starting to warm up to going to "school". We have many summer adventures planned and lots of fun to come!
